The way that Camp Thunderbird has changed lives throughout the years is impossible to measure, but for the generation of counselors just finishing our time at camp, it has shaped us immensely. Thunderbird has created some of our most important relationships and has guided the direction of most of what we do today. We truly believe there is no other place that can offer what Camp Thunderbird does, providing lessons and growth opportunities only available at Camp’s unique environment. Part of Camp’s magic is bringing people together from all walks of life, and then allowing them to learn valuable lessons together and from each other. There is no way we could ever give back what camp has given us, but we would love to try!
For many of us, when we think about our time at Camp Thunderbird, there is one name that comes to mind, Ryan Payne. Ryan is intertwined into all of the friendships, experiences, and memories that we have created together at CTB. He will always be remembered as the goofiest guy we knew, with the biggest smile on his face, constantly making everybody laugh. His love for this camp translated into the extraordinary counselor that he was. Ryan had an impact on everyone that was fortunate enough to know him, and he is the reason that many of us, along with many campers, returned summer after summer to Thunderbird. Unfortunately, we lost Ryan far too soon in June 2021, but to say his memory lives on would be an understatement. While much of our generation will soon be heading into the real world, we wanted to give the gift of summer camp to those who otherwise may not have the opportunity, and we want to honor Ryan by naming these scholarships for him.
For those unfamiliar with Camp Thunderbird’s Scholarship Program, it is camp’s way to make sure no child misses out on these life-changing experiences. Financial assistance is offered to those in need of it, allowing every kid to have the chance to be a part of the loving Thunderbird family. We ask that you help us keep Camp Thunderbird the most incredible place on the planet, and we encourage you to donate here to help send kids to camp, in honor of our friend Ryan Payne. To provide a point of reference, a week session at camp costs $1,525, while a two week session costs $3,050. However, no amount is too large or small, and any amount is a huge help! We deeply appreciate your consideration and generosity, and we look forward to watching a new generation of campers become their best selves!
